About the University
Penza State Pedagogical University named after V. G. Belinsky is the oldest institution in the Penza Region, with a rich history, leading its history with the establishment in 1939 of the Teachers' Institute. In 1941, at the base of the teachers' institute was opened Penza State Pedagogical Institute. In 1948 the institute was named after our countryman, writer and critic V. G. Belinsky. A long tradition of excellence for education, a strong scientific and pedagogical potential have led to the transformation of the pedagogical institute into State Pedagogical University in 1994, which today is deservedly one of the leading regional center of education, science and culture.
Penza State Pedagogical University is a good base for training teachers in the region and even beyond: the University prepares teachers for advanced students. The results of monitoring of Higher School of Economics show Penza State Pedagogical University named after V. G. Belinsky took the 5th place according to the number of students enrolled in 2010 among the best 25 pedagogical universities in Russia.
More than 650 academics and researchers provide the educational process and scientific work in the university. There are 69 doctors, professors, 366 PhDs, associate professors. Thus, the percentage of teachers with advanced degrees or rank is high enough, it is more than 66%.
Today about ten thousand students study full-time or part-time. The university provides all available educational programs in the system of higher education in Russia: traditional higher education, undergraduate, master degree courses, postgraduate course, second higher education, continuing education, retraining and advanced training.
At the postgraduate course there are 29 specialties in 12 fields of science. Today there are 259 postgraduate students.
Today, Penza State Pedagogical University is a modern diverse university, which trains professionals in different fields: physics and mathematics, technics, humanities, education, natural science. But in spite of the late improvement in the sphere of high education the university has guarded its unique tradition of training fro 70 years. Every time you come to the university you immediately feel a special atmosphere that has developed here during the studies of so many generations of students. Most of them are people looking for something creative, they have achieved considerable success in their life and career.
